100 Black Men of Syracuse Inc. was recently inducted as an official chapter of 100 Black Men of America, Inc. The local non-profit, non-partisan volunteer group, which focuses on creating educational opportunities, promoting economic empowerment, addressing health disparities and creating positive mentoring relationships, was recognized June 10 in New York City as one of more than 115 chapters of 100 Black Men of America during the national organization’s 23rd annual conference.

“Our status as a new chapter reflects more than two years of planning, organizing and directing the energies of our tireless and committed members to doing the work that builds on the mission of our national organization,” said Vincent Love, president of 100 Black Men of Syracuse. “We’re already working with youth, partnering with other local organizations and honoring those that share our commitment to building a stronger African-American community in Syracuse.”
100 Black Men of Syracuse Inc. was founded in 2007 by Walter Eiland of Syracuse, a mechanic at Crouse Hospital, and Jerome Walker of Fayetteville, a transportation aide, also at Crouse Hospital. Eiland and Walker are voting members on the organization’s board of directors. Love, a Liverpool resident and Accountant/Deputy Treasurer for the North Syracuse Central School District, is serving his second term as president. Other officers serving on the board of directors in 2009 are:
- Vice President, Operations: Robert Sykes of Syracuse, Manager of Resource Management-Upstate NY for National Grid
- Vice President, Programs: Jawwaad Rasheed of Rome, Oneida County Family Court Magistrate
- Vice President of Finance: Darris Williams of DeWitt, Coordinator of the Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation at Onondaga Community College
- Immediate Past President: Louis Clark of Syracuse, retired executive director of P.E.A.C.E. Inc.
Serving as at-large directors in 2009 are:
- Allan Aberdeen of Syracuse, sewer maintenance worker for the Onondaga County Department of Water Environment Protection
- Charles Anderson of Syracuse, former City of Syracuse Common Councilor
- Drake Harrison of Syracuse, director of the Collegiate Science & Technology Entry Program at Onondaga Community College and Co-Principal Investor for National Science Foundation Programs
- J.B. McCampbell of Liverpool, Member Communications Manager for the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of New York and president/owner of JBM Media Services
- Glenn Williams of DeWitt, Underground Electric Foreman for National Grid.
